John P. Callos

Mr. Callos has enjoyed a stellar career in business, education, consulting and as an private sector advisor to the US government on foreign policy and trade matters.

Callos has been formally recognized and credited by the US Secretary of Commerce for his distinguished work on NAFTA (The North American Free Trade Agreement), the Free Trade Agreement with Canada, the U.S. Japanese MOSS talks and The European Common Market Impact.

Callos was appointed under President Ronald Reagan as private sector advisor on United States Industry Advisory Committee 16: Heavy truck, automobiles, mining and railroads; reappointed under President George Bush. Appointed under President Bill Clinton. In 1999, Callos resigned all federal appointments and sold his equity interest in Phillips Industries in order to devote his full time efforts to a variety of private sector interests and personal hobbies.

An avid international sportsman, Callos holds world altitude records in glider soaring, is an avid sculler, a bluewater sailor and regularly competes in Skeet Shooting in the Western US.

For twenty-three years, Callos lead all the sales and marketing activities worldwide for Phillips Industries, a privately held, $70 Million, 700 employee manufacturer and marketer of heavy truck parts. Phillips products are manufactured in California, Texas and Indiana and marketed through a worldwide sales rep force to OEM truck manufacturers and fleets. Phillips products are marketed in the U.S., Canada and thirty-one foreign countries.

After serving during the Korean War, Callos finished his studies at the University of Southern California (USC) in Business, with an emphasis in Marketing. Following USC, Callos served as a faculty member of Marketing at Cal State University at Fullerton and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).

Callos was recently presented with a commendation Certificate of Appreciation from William Daley, United States Secretary of Commerce, which reads:

“For outstanding leadership on the transportation, construction, mining and agricultural equipment industry sector Advisory Committee, for critical advice to the department on international trade policy matters, and thirteen years of dedicated service and representation of the heavy-duty sector of the U.S. transportation industry.”
