Why CEOs Call Us
Usually the CEOs or other executives say something like this:
  • "We need to grow faster and I’m not happy with our sales results. I used to be able to go out there and shake things up, but I’ve got to run the company. I need to find out what’s going on out there and why we’re not growing. All I’m hearing is excuses. I need answers and the board is demanding results."
  • "We’re missing opportunities in the market. I can feel it. I just don’t know where we should be right now."
  • "Every request for these projects sounds good on paper. But I don’t have the time to independently verify that these assumptions are correct. They’re asking me to approve a multi-million dollar request, and I don’t even know if their market data is right. I need help fast."
  • "Great vision, but this just doesn’t make sense at the ground level with our sales force. Where are the details? Where’s the execution plan? Why don't these guys get it? Can you help them by establishing a standard platform for execution plans?"
  • "These guys have a great plan and a great track record. But I need someone to check out their proposal. I’m just not comfortable that they’ve done their homework. I need someone else to take an objective look and give me some advice."
  • "I think we’re in over our heads on this project but my people won’t admit it. I need someone to look into this."
  • "The markets are changing so quickly and we’re not keeping up. We’re so busy fighting to keep our customers that we don’t have time to think of a plan. What should we do?"
  • "My guys won’t speak straight with me. They are giving me the runaround and double talk. I need answers. Straight answers. And I need them now!"
  • "We’ve got to change. We’re not keeping up. I have the same guys that have been here for years, and they don’t see it. They might have to go. Hell, I don’t want to pull the plug on these guys, but if I don’t, the whole company may be at risk. I want you to come in and see what needs to be cut and how we can improve this operation. If cuts have to be made, you make them! I want to keep my hands clean in all of this."
  • "I’ve got these young kids who know more about the technology than I ever will. But they need some development if they're to reach the next level. I want you to work with them and help develop their business planning and leadership skills."
  • "I know I’m spending way too much on advertising and I’m not getting the results I should. How should I best utilize the limited investment I have to drive my sales higher? Is there another way to build sales?"
  • "Our CEO is a 30-year old from Stanford. Bright kid, but he's wet behind the ears when it comes to leadership. Jack, our Board member from the VC firm, wants this kid to be coached in leadership skills and to develop a solid strategic plan for next quarter's Board meeting. We need your help on this one!"
  • "We need an eCommerce strategy. My technology guys are selling me a Rolls Royce when I think a Chevy will do. Can you come in and take an independent look at the situation?"
